Overview

A broke young couple suddenly inherits a sprawling country manor and dreams of a fresh start. The reality is leaking ceilings, endless repairs, and a very crowded afterlife. The house is home to a mismatched group of ghosts from different eras, each stuck with unfinished business and strong opinions. As the living try to renovate and settle in, the dead do everything they can to be seen, heard, and taken seriously.

Synopsis

When a young couple inherits a grand but crumbling country house, they move in hoping to turn it into a home and a workable business. The property comes with hidden costs: mold, collapsing rooms, constant bills, and an unexpected community of ghosts who have lingered there for centuries. After an accident leaves one of the new owners able to see and hear the spirits, the household becomes a chaotic negotiation between the living and the dead. The ghosts are an eccentric mix from vastly different time periods, each with their own quirks, grudges, and ideas about how the house should be run. As renovations begin and outsiders arrive, the couple must juggle practical survival with supernatural complications, while the ghosts learn that sharing space with the living might be their best chance at connection and change.

Trivia
A crumbling country manor becomes a battleground of opinions when the living move in and the dead refuse to be ignored.
Q1: In the UK series "Ghosts," what is the name of the country house where the living and the ghosts all reside?
Answer: Button House
The house is effectively the show’s main setting and the reason such a wildly mixed group of spirits ends up sharing one space. Many plotlines and running gags hinge on the quirks and problems of the property itself.
Q2: After Alison gains the ability to see ghosts, what does her husband Mike NOT gain the ability to do?
Answer: See and hear the ghosts directly
This dynamic drives a lot of the comedy and tension, since Mike has to rely on Alison as the go-between. It also shapes how the ghosts try to influence the living world.
Q3: Which actor from the core ensemble also plays the romantic poet ghost Thomas Thorne?
Answer: Mathew Baynton
The show’s ensemble is known for its multi-talented cast and distinctive character work. Recognizing who plays which ghost highlights the performers’ range and the series’ theatrical roots.
