Glee follows the New Directions, a struggling show choir at William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. Determined to bring music back to the halls, teacher Will Schuester rebuilds the club from scratch, gathering students who rarely fit the school’s idea of popular. Among them are ambitious performers, shy outsiders, athletes, and kids carrying burdens they do not openly share. Each week their rehearsals turn into high-energy performances drawn from well-known hits, while their daily lives collide with gossip, romance, identity questions, and tough family realities. The club’s quest to compete on the show-choir circuit pushes them to work as a team, even when egos and rivalries flare. They also face relentless opposition from cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, whose schemes keep the group under pressure. Over time, the glee club becomes a lifeline, offering confidence, friendship, and a chance to be seen.
