Synopsis

Set in Port Washington, Wisconsin, Step by Step follows two single parents whose spontaneous decision to marry transforms their lives overnight. Frank Lambert, a laid-back contractor, and Carol Foster, a caring salon owner, try to merge their very different families under one roof. Carol brings her three children, including strong-willed Dana and social-minded Karen, while Frank arrives with his own trio, led by the goofy, big-hearted J.T. and practical Al. The kids struggle with new rules, shared bedrooms, and the awkward reality of instant siblings, while Frank and Carol learn how to co-parent without losing their own identities. Adding to the chaos is Frank’s lovable cousin Cody, who shows up with questionable advice and a knack for turning small problems into bigger adventures. Through school pressures, teen drama, sibling rivalries, and family milestones, the Lamberts and Fosters gradually build trust and find their rhythm as a real family.
