Overview

After a catastrophe wipes out his shipmates, slacker technician Dave Lister wakes from stasis three million years into deep space aboard the mining vessel Red Dwarf. Declared the last human alive, he muddles through isolation with an oddball crew: a by-the-book hologram of his late bunkmate Rimmer, an evolved feline life-form known as Cat, the ship’s deadpan computer Holly, and later the hygiene-obsessed droid Kryten.

Synopsis

Red Dwarf is a sci-fi comedy set on a gigantic mining spacecraft drifting far from Earth. Low-ranking technician Dave Lister is accidentally kept in suspended animation after an onboard disaster, awakening three million years later to a ship that’s been cleaned by time and machines, but emptied of human life. With no one else alive, he’s forced to build a new routine with companions who are anything but normal. The ship’s computer, Holly, does its best to guide him, while the crew is rounded out by Arnold Rimmer, a hologram brought back for company and conflict, and Cat, a stylish descendant of Lister’s pet who has developed into a self-absorbed humanoid. As their uneasy friendships grow, the group stumbles into bizarre planets, warped technology, and strange consequences of deep-space travel. Each episode mixes absurd survival problems with character-driven squabbles, leaving Lister searching for meaning and a way forward.
